Looking for beautiful cities to live in in Colorado is not very difficult. It seems like everywhere you turn, there is some charming little city that just seems like the perfect place to live and work. One such city is Lafayette, Colorado. Lafayette is an amazing little Rocky Mountain town that still has that turn-of-the-century charm to it. Although the population has jumped up to above 30,000 people, it still has a distinct small town feel to it. The views are amazing and the people are charming as well.
Lafayette, like a lot of other towns in the Boulder area got its start in the coal mining days. Back in 1889, it was founded by Mary Miller. Mrs. Miller was the wife of Lafayette Miller and she named the town after her late husband. One day she discovered the largest coal mine in the area beneath her property. As a result of that, her wealth increased and so did her influence in the area. She helped get her son elected as mayor and then ran the town from behind the scenes. She was a very interesting individual and her influence rubbed off on the rest of the small mining village. Over the years, the town grew and eventually turned out to be the wonderful place that it is today.
Lafayette is a great place to live and work. There are some jobs to be had there and the median income is nearly $70,000 per household. This provides its residents with a comfortable lifestyle that allows them to enjoy all that Lafayette has to offer. The median house price is about $280,000 which is nice, but still less expensive than living in nearby Boulder. The cost of living index in Lafayette is right at the national average at 100.4. This means that it is not too expensive to live here like some other cities around.
The location of Lafayette is very convenient as you can get to Boulder with a short 20 minute drive west. It is located about 25 minutes away from Denver and only 10 minutes from Broomfield. You can get to wherever you need to go in the area within half of an hour. This makes living in Lafayette a great place even if you need to commute.
Lafayette is home to some great shopping and family-owned businesses. One such establishment is Effrain’s restaurant in the downtown area. If you like home cooking and a family atmosphere, you need to stop in for a visit. Although Effrain’s is one of the best, they are by no means the only game in town. Lafayette is full of great places to eat that you can actually take your family into. Lafayette has a little bit of everything that you can find without leaving town. The views are beautiful, the food is good, and the people are friendly. What more could you possibly be looking for in a place to call home?
